How to Prevent Cancer

The risk of cancer is related to genes and exposure to various environmental toxins.While there are certain risks are unchangeable (eg genes), some factors of lifestyle if modified can help prevent the occurrence of cancer.

Another important dimension for the prevention of cancer is knowing your body and being aware of any changes may detect cancer as early as possible.

A healthy lifestyle can lower the risk of certain cancers. This includes various dimensions as:

Eating a healthy balanced diet

There is much research on what increases the risk of cancer and how the reduced, however, any food or supplement can prevent cancer from developing. Overall, the research shows a connection between the consumption of certain food groups and a reduction in cancer risk.

Healthy diet includes plenty of fruit and vegetables (at least 5 servings a day), plenty of bread, rice, potatoes, pasta and other foods with carbohydrates and especially those with fiber .

The Eating enough fiber reduces the risk of bowel cancer. Fiber-Rich foods include pasta, bread, breakfast cereals and brown rice. The pulses, fruit and vegetables are also good sources of fiber.

There must be some meat, fish, eggs, beans and other sources of protein synthetic and some milk and dairy products in diet. Although meat is a good source of protein, vitamins and minerals, such as iron and zinc, there is evidence that too much of processed red meat can be bad as it can increase the risk of bowel cancer. Red meat includes beef, pork, lamb and processed meat includes bacon, sausages, salami and ham. The diet should contain only small amounts of foods and drinks high in fat or sugar.

The diet should be high in foods with antioxidants. However, some of them in high amounts can increase the risk of cancers. For example, Beta-Carotene, often found in antioxidant supplements, has been found to increase the risk of lung cancer became smokers and people who have heavy exposure to asbestos at work.

Maintain a healthy body weight and normal

The Higher body weight, obesity and being overweight increases the risk of several cancers including bowel cancer, pancreatic cancer, esophageal cancer, kidney cancer and breast cancer.

Stopping smoking completely

90% of lung cancer cases are related to smoking. It is the only most important avoidable factor preventing lung cancer. The previous smoking for the better.

Less alcohol consumption

Excessive consumption of alcohol is connected to oral cancer, cancer of the voice box (larynx) or the pharynx (back of the mouth), bowel cancer (especially in men), liver cancer and breast cancer (in women). Women should not regularly drink more than 2-3 units of alcohol a day and men should not regularly drink more than 3-4 units one day.

Prevention of prolonged exposure of bare skin to the sun

Skin cancers are common among Caucasians that are exposed to the ultraviolet rays of the sun for long durations of time. Some dimensions include time display between 11am and 3pm, using lotions sun screen with sun protection factor (SPF) of at least 15, covering up exposed parts of the body with cloths, hats and sunglasses.

Vaccines for the prevention of cancer

Vaccines against HPV and Hepatits B are available. They can protect against cervical cancer (HPV – Gardasil and Cervarix) and liver cancers.
